Writer's Block is a killer...

Ok...I've been working on my character app for over a week and in my opinion it sucks worse than a Hoover. I've been role playing for six years or better. I was hoping that writers block had run its course and would no longer come to visit. So in closing, what suggestions do you guys have to rid me of writers block?

Well, here's what I do when I get it.

1. Walk away: If you hit a wall you aren't going to go anywhere just staring at the screen. It just doesn't work that way.

2. Do something else: Go watch a movie, play a videogame, or read a book. These are great places to find inspiration for writing, plus they expand your universe.

3. Bend things you find fun to fit. Yes, this is a Final Fantasy website, but that doesn't mean it has to be a hardcore Final Fantasy Character. You can ask anyone here, when I first started, I had absolutely no clue about ANYTHING that had to do with Final Fantasy. I just showed up cause Kin held me down and beat me till I joined. My character started off as a Halo clone and look at him now XD. Just make something that you would find easy.

Thanks bro. It did help. Character app is up ad as is but when the inspiration hits I'll be adding some revisions.

Altair, from horrific and bloody painful personal experience, I can tell you that Writer's Block does NOT simply run its course with practice.

Fury makes good points.

In my case, I tend to keep a HUGE stable of projects-in-progress in the hopes that if one is blocked then something else will be able to work. But I've had days where NOTHING is working.

And yes, above all else, don't be afraid of the character changing on you. It's a good thing.

Just letting you know that you've got my sympathies.

My 3 cents less than a nickle.... Music. Be it what you like personally, or what fits best with your character's style.... I always find music to help with inspiration ^__^

Yes! Music! Music helps a LOT with setting a scene.

Sometimes I can't write a scene simply because I don't have the right kind of music playing. It's amazing what a special-chosen playlist can manage for ya.

Well, Imma put in a broken quarter with my idea:

Just clear your mind. Music helps. Just relax and clear your mind. Become calm and peaceful. When relaxed, its easier for me to think. I get writer's block at the worst time, sometimes on a writing test!

I personally can't write with music playing. I end up writing the lyrics! XDD

I tried instrumental music too. I wrote "dun dun doo, doodly doodly wah wah" If I see it in my head, I write it down.




....this doesn't help at all, does it?

Tifa, it does lol, and quite humorous as well.

Instrumental music usually helps me to calm down and find my words. I just need to focus and let it come to me.
